Blogging without the Browser

by Mike on Apr.09, 2008, under Technobabble

Lately I have been thinking about blogging without the need to actually log into my website. There used to be a great tool for called “Performancing”, which has been renamed to “ScribeFire”…but it never really worked to my specifications. I am trying a couple of them out, one called w.bloggar, the other “Windows Live Writer”.

First off, if you had to click my “read more” link, then w.bloggar did the trick in splitting my up into the teaser and the main content (what you are now.) That is one thing I could never really get working on the other tools, and it is really important to me to have that working. It keeps my posts a lot cleaner and easier to read.

Next, I the software claims to be entirely portable, meaning I could put it on a USB drive and take in anywhere, make posts, and either publish them immediately, or save them for later. Pretty neat, if I do say so myself.

The “Windows Live Writer” software is also working well. It does the same stuff the w.bloggar does, and possibly a lot more. The interface is sure a lot spiffier, but the downside is that it is a Microsoft tool, and when you install it you have to uncheck all the stuff they are trying to force upon you (use Live Search as your default search, install this toolbar, use Live photos, etc.)

I may try this thing out for a couple of days more, see how well it works. If I can convince to use it, and she likes it, that might be the last thing.
