Lately I have been thinking about blogging without the need to actually log into my website. There used to be a great tool for Firefox called “Performancing”, which has been renamed to “ScribeFire”…but it never really worked to my specifications. I am trying a couple of them out, one called w.bloggar, the other “Windows Live Writer”.

First off, if you had to click my “read more” link, then w.bloggar did the trick in splitting my blog up into the teaser and the main content (what you are reading now.) That is one thing I could never really get working on the other tools, and it is really important to me to have that working. It keeps my blog posts a lot cleaner and easier to read.

Next, I the software claims to be entirely portable, meaning I could put it on a USB drive and take in anywhere, make posts, and either publish them immediately, or save them for later. Pretty neat, if I do say so myself.

The “Windows Live Writer” software is also working well. It does the same stuff the w.bloggar does, and possibly a lot more. The interface is sure a lot spiffier, but the downside is that it is a Microsoft tool, and when you install it you have to uncheck all the stuff they are trying to force upon you (use Live Search as your default search, install this toolbar, use Live photos, etc.)

I may try this thing out for a couple of days more, see how well it works. If I can convince Johanna to use it, and she likes it, that might be the last thing.

In late November, an email just landed in my inbox from a gentleman at Love Communications. Apparently he googled for PHP developers and found my website, mikezilla.us. I scheduled an interview, since I was very interested in changing jobs at the time…

Well, the interview went well, but at the time the higher-ups in the company didn’t want to invest in the position that I was interviewing for. I kept in contact with him through late January, but nothing was happening, and for the most part assumed that nothing would.

Now, today, there was another email from ‘em. And yes, I have a new job. The pay is the same as what I was making with ClearLink in December, but the benefits are much better IMHO, and the environment is a refreshing change. Not only that, but I will be starting up the web development department for them, since I am their first full-time web developer!

More to come on this, but I am excited to say the least!
