Home sick from Church

So today I am home from church, sick. This morning I could barely move or talk, and as the day has worn on I have been feeling a bit better, but bored out of my mind. So I decided to retouch some of the photos that we had taken in the fall, to get ready for printing. By retouch, I mean take Aiden’s eyes from one photo, James’ face from another, and piece together something where it looks like our kids know how to stand still for the smallest of moments.

James and Aiden

Aiden has a hard time focusing on homework. I think he might have ADD because he can’t focus for long at all.  He is having a hard time with math, and reading.  He is getting better at reading. There is a website that helps kids learn to read through games and interaction. It is called starfall.com I recomend it. On the site there is a snowman game that Aiden plays all the time. At the beginning someone says, ow sometimes sounds like O.  Aiden has played it so much that that saying in stuck in my head.  Today I was working on sight words with Aiden, James was there, one of the words was bowl and Aiden didn’t know it.  I tell him to sound it out, he wasn’t doing a good job at it and so I gave him a hint. Remember that game, sometimes ow sounds like what. James blurts out really quickley O.  Aiden was still trying to figure it out. James is a smart cookie. I hope he has a better time with school then Aiden is having!

The Starry-Eyed Puppet Show, etc.

The kids are having a great summer, my job is doing well, and Johanna doesn’t feel super-sick all day anymore (though mornings and evenings are still a little rough.) All in all things seems to be turning out pretty well. We have two semi-new couches we got from Johanna’s sister Amanda for free-95, and yesterday Johanna actually rearranged the front room (or is it a family room, or a living room?) and it looks really nice.

Last night we went to see State Fair at the Sugar Factory Playhouse, and it was a pretty good show. Some of my old friends there haven’t seen me since I was a single, not-even-anyone-on-the-horizon sort of guy. Finding out that baby Dodge is on the way was a real shocker.

But even with all this great news, the most memorable part of the recent week was when we decided to take the kids to a free puppet show at the West Jordana library for Family Home Evening. It was the Starry-Eyed Puppet Show, and it was really something else. What made it so great? Well, let me tell you…

Scripture Stories

As a family, we are reading the scripture stories from the church web site, the ones that used to be found in the old “Book of Mormon Reader” that we all remember so well from childhood. For the longest time, I was sure that none of this was sinking in with the kids. Boy, was I wrong.
