Worshipping at the Porcelain Altar
by Mike on Jan.17, 2010, under General
In late ’09 my Christmas break was anything but a break. We re-tiled our bathroom, and have just finished putting in a new “Porcelain Altar.” It’s nothing astounding, mostly because Johanna wouldn’t let me get a High-Tech “Darth Vader Black” toilet, but hey, this one flushes and does it’s duty just fine. So for all those who I am sure are interested in how we’re dealing with all the crap that 2009 left us with…here ya go.

I’m sure you were all so…moved…by this. I have been.

The First Week
by Mike on Jan.15, 2009, under General
So Glen is now officially 1 week old (don’t worry, I won’t bore you all with up-to-the-nanosecond updates…this ought to suffice until the next truly monumentous event). He is just learning how much fun it is to eat and eat and eat and eat and EAT all the time. Today he gave Johanna a whole 3 hours between feedings at one point. But perhaps she is the one who should tell you all about that.
You see, earlier this week, everyone was asking me “How’s the baby doing? You getting any sleep?” and I felt obliged to make some comment about how his feeding schedule meshed with my need for rest. But Johanna doesn’t like me saying anything, because the truth of the matter is that so far, he hasn’t caused me to lose much.

Christmas List (Mike version)
by Mike on Nov.22, 2008, under General
Johanna and I have been telling each other that we need to find time to go Christmas shopping, but before we do that we need to put together Christmas lists of what we want. Normally I am not the type of person to put together a list, it makes me feel needy. But this time around, I thought we could turn this into something a little more fun. So I am posting my list online for all my friends and family to see.

So this past week has been a really tough one for me at work. Not because I was hating work, but because there was so MUCH work and so LITTLE time to do it all. (continue reading…)

The Starry-Eyed Puppet Show, etc.
by Mike on Jun.25, 2008, under General, Kidz, Married Life
The kids are having a great summer, my job is doing well, and Johanna doesn’t feel super-sick all day anymore (though mornings and evenings are still a little rough.) All in all things seems to be turning out pretty well. We have two semi-new couches we got from Johanna’s sister Amanda for free-95, and yesterday Johanna actually rearranged the front room (or is it a family room, or a living room?) and it looks really nice.
Last night we went to see State Fair at the Sugar Factory Playhouse, and it was a pretty good show. Some of my old friends there haven’t seen me since I was a single, not-even-anyone-on-the-horizon sort of guy. Finding out that baby Dodge is on the way was a real shocker.
But even with all this great news, the most memorable part of the recent week was when we decided to take the kids to a free puppet show at the West Jordana library for Family Home Evening. It was the Starry-Eyed Puppet Show, and it was really something else. What made it so great? Well, let me tell you…
